Art receptions on Thursday | News, Sports, Jobs

MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library and the city of Marquette Office of Arts and Culture will host the opening receptions for the three art galleries within the walls of PWPL from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Marc Himes and Louise Laakso Lundin will give their artist talks about woodturning and watercolors at 6:30 p.m. in the Deo Gallery.

The Deo Gallery is owned by the city of Marquette and is located in the basement of the PWPL in the city’s Arts and Culture Center. It is curated monthly by the Lake Superior Art Association.

The Deo Gallery’s exhibit will be up through Oct. 28. PWPL galleries’ exhibits will be up through November. Outside the Deo Gallery in the Lower Level Lobby Gallery there will be Lari Wendt’s digital images combining realistic human features and abstract images.

“The Best of Us: An NCLL Retrospective” from the Northern Center for Lifelong Learning students will feature student photographers ranging in experience, equipment and subjects. The talk will begin at 7 p.m. in the Huron Mountain Club Gallery on the main floor.

Receptions are free and open to the public.
